I have 29 years of teaching experience with a degree in music and minor in composition. I teach out of my home studio in Hazelwood, MO or virtually through Skype or FaceTime. There are limited available time slots, so please contact me ahead of time. Please read below for further information regarding cost and policies.
Lessons and Guidelines
Lessons: A lesson consists of ½ hour or an hour of time which I teach techniques that the student needs to achieve their drumming/percussion goals. Whether it is reading music, fundamentals of the snare, marching/drum corps, orchestra/concert band, or drum set in any style; @MS Works offers a wide range of areas to choose from to better serve the student. For more information about me, please visit: http://adamtevlin.com/drums-percussion-about/
Virtual: If you decide to take lessons with me, you have the option to take your lesson virtually via Skype or FaceTime. I highly recommend lessons to be in person at my studio; but at times due to weather or distance, the virtual option can be convenient and helpful. If you take lessons in person, a 24 hour notice is required to switch to virtual for your upcoming lesson. I also highly recommend a high speed internet connection. I personally have a fiber optic connection that has speeds starting at 100Mbps with no data caps. I also run it through an AC5300 Nighthawk x8 Tri-Band Wi-Fi Router. One of the bands; which has speeds up to 5.3Gbps, is solely dedicated to virtual lessons. You will also need to use a set of headphones with a microphone to avoid echo in the audio.
Cost: The cost is $25/½ hour or $50/hour. There is the option to pay monthly which is recommended for those who want to continually take lessons on a weekly basis. For weekly ½ hour lessons; the monthly tuition is $80/mo, or $160/mo for hour weekly lessons.
Tuition: Whether paying monthly or per lesson, payment is due before the lesson starts (due 48 hours before the lesson starts for virtual students only paying through PayPal). Paying monthly enables you to not only to save $20/month, but also you receive a free lesson every 3 months because there’s 5 weeks of lessons every 3 months. If you are paying monthly, the first lesson will be the due date of every month. For example if your first lesson is on the 5th, then you will pay the $80/$160 upfront and that will be your due date for the following months. You will then be invoiced the last lesson prior to the 5th of the next month and will need to pay in full before or by the next lesson.
Cancel/Re-scheduling: There is no rescheduling or making up a lesson for those are paying monthly. It is fair for new students who want to start lessons by keeping those available time slots open. A reminder for those who wish to pay monthly is that every 3 months you save $60, plus receive a free lesson. For those who pay per lesson, a 48 notice prior to the lesson time is needed to receive a refund. Again, it not fair for other students who wish to sign up for lessons. If of course the day/time is no longer convenient for those who pay monthly, then we may reschedule to a different available day/time within that same week of the lesson. Your monthly due date will remain the same and will not sacrifice in the savings. There will be rarely at times, to where I will not be available whether through illness, unexpected emergency, or vacation. I prefer the latter; and for those who pay monthly, will receive a credit on their next month’s invoice. One 1/2 hr lesson credit will equal $20 or $40 for an hour.
Discontinue: If a monthly student wishes to discontinue lessons, they may do so with a 48 hour notice. Any lessons that have not happened for that monthly period will be refunded. One 1/2 hr lesson credit will equal $20 or $40 for an hour. For those who pay per lesson, you will need to give a 48 hour notice to receive a refund.
Payment: @MS Works, LLC accepts cash, check, or PayPal to mratbomb@hotmail.com. I prefer cash or check if the lessons are mostly in person, but PayPal is fine for strictly virtual students. Please make check payable to @MS Works, LLC. A $30 Returned Item Fee will be charged if the item is returned.
Ethics: If the student is under 19 years of age, he/she has to be accompanied by a trusted friend or family member at all times at the studio. The studio’s door will be shut in a vacuum sealed sound proofed room when higher decibels are emitted. Otherwise if the lesson just involves a practice pad or lighter playing, the studio door may be left open and the accompanying party may wait in the waiting area outside the door. When you arrive in person, someone will greet you at the door and show you to the waiting area to be seated before your lesson. I highly recommend hearing protection that protects up to 25 decibels. I personally have a few extra Vic Firth Isolation Headphones; but if you are hygienic, please bring your own earplugs or headphones.
